In a period where we literally do not know what will dawn on us with what is going on around us, now we have our own idiots doing what they can to cause problems. Two days ago it was bombing the central SEV offices, before that the raid on the German ambassador’s residence, while convicted terrorists fuel the tension with incendiary statements ahead of the anniversary of the Grigoropoulos murder.

The criminal actions of terrorists and emergent rebels are facilitated by the police’s unacceptable laxity and lack of planning. The embassy of Cyprus, which is next to the SEV offices, was not guarded because it was not considered a major target. Similarly the German ambassador’s residence, which had been targeted, had not been guarded adequately.

The condition of the country and breaking developments in the broader region must not allow the slightest tolerance to violence and terrorism. When the whole of Europe is on alert expecting the next strike of the paranoid jihadists, we cannot allow ourselves to become a part of the problem. There are more than enough external threats to let our own violent fanatics to roam around unopposed.

We have paid dearly for the violence in relation to the crisis over recent years to allow the unhindered operation of groups that aim for social tensions and conflict. The wishful thinking and condemnation of such actions are not enough. Coordinated actions and determination from the relevant authorities are necessary, as well as a broad political and social front, without exceptions and excuses, against violence and terrorism. There can be no games with the country’s security allowed…
