New Democracy MP Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his hope that the government reaches an “acceptable agreement” and argued that the problems will become apparent in three months, when the government is faced with the next memorandum it will be forced to sign.
Mr. Mitsotakis told ANT1 that “there is no chance of a good agreement” and estimated that despite its calls for the opposite, the government will be forced to sign a new memorandum within the next 12 to 18 months, as it will be unable to carry on with borrowing money from the markets. Furthermore, Mr. Mitsotakis lamented that there was no discussion on necessary growth plans and tax reforms, while the real economy suffers.
When asked about how his party will vote when the agreement is debated in Parliament, Mr. Mitsotakis responded that without examining the finer details of the deal, he cannot take a stand. However, he conceded that an agreement is better than a ‘non-agreement’.
