The trial of two men for the lethal arson attacks against a Marfin bank branch and the «Ianos» bookstore in down town Athens that took place in May 2010 was set to begin today, but has been postponed for the 21st of September 2015.

The arson attack, which took place during a major protest in Athens, resulted in the tragic death of three bank employees.

According to the Misdemeanor Council’s indictment, one of the two men appears to have been assisted by two others in setting fire to the Marfin Bank store with a Molotov cocktail on Stadiou Street. The other man is facing charges for the arson attack against the book store.

In July 2013 the courts found three Marfin officers were found guilty of manslaughter. Marfin managing consultant Konstantinos Vasilakopoulos and the building’s security manager Emmanuel Velonakis received 22-year prison sentences; branch manager Anna Vakalopoulou was sentenced to 5 years and one month.
