According to the Bank of Greece, a net total of 288 million euros were invested by foreign nationals in Greece during the first quarter of 2014, while resident investments overseas increased by 195 million euros.
The Bank of Greece reported that there was an influx of 310 million euros in portfolio investments, which is a result of foreign nationals supporting Greek enterprises and Greeks reducing foreign investments. This was offset by the partial reduction of foreign investments in Greek bonds and treasury bills.
Additionally the bank documented a 584 million euro outflow in other investments, which was due to the reduction of the Greek State’s loan obligations to foreign nationals.
Investments from foreign nationals in Greece during March 2014 came to 233 million euros. The most important transaction was Crystal Almond investing 200 million euros in Wind Hellas’ capital increase.
Finally, a total of 3 billion euros were invested in portfolios, attributed to the reduction of Greek investments in foreign bonds and the inflow of foreign investments in Greek businesses.
