A senior officer at the Ministry of Finances revealed that the Greek government is willing to discuss the possibility of a new aid package, as long as there are no fiscal measures, only structural reforms, in response to a report in Die Spiegel that the German Minister of Finances Wolfgang Schäuble has suggested a third bailout.
The same officer also noted that the meeting between the German and French Ministers of Finances at the sidelines of the latest Eurogroup meeting in Brussels “was good for Greece” and hinted that our European partners are finalizing a proposal that will be beneficial to Greek interests.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the German Ministry of Finances has confirmed rumors of a third aid package to Greece and denied the possibility of a new debt haircut. The Ministry did not address the rumor that the IMF will not contribute to the 10-20 billion euro aid package.
The Greek side has categorically rejected any discussion of further fiscal measures, with the government claiming to have exceeded its goal for the primary surplus, with government estimates suggesting it may be 1.5 billion euros, nearly double the 812 million euros that was calculated in the 2013 budget. Eurostat will certify the primary surplus on the 23rd of April.
