The Greek and Italian Coast Guards were mobilized after Italian authorities received a distress call from a passenger on board a vessel with about 300 refugees, in a maritime area southeast of Pylos.

As soon as the distress call was received, the two Coast Guards, along with private vessels in the area, began searching for the refugees. The weather conditions are not favorable, with rain and wind speeds measuring 5 on the Beaufort scale.

So far they have failed to locate the refugee vessel.
