A total of 50 refugees from Syria and Iraq, who are currently at the municipal camp at Souda on Chios, are carrying on with their hunger strike. Two of the hunger strikers have received medical attention.

The refugees launched their hunger strike last week, demanding that the relocation program to Europe and North America be implemented, along with the expedition of the asylum procedures. The hunger strikers also demand the implementation of international provisions on refugee protection.

The municipal authorities commented that despite the efforts of the local residents and authorities, the refugees have been abandoned to their own devices and have no legal update or information provided. They also called the Greek government and other European countries to push forward with asylum demands.
