The government will be faced with serious legal and financial problems since the Court of Auditors has ruled that the cuts in wages and pensions of ESY doctors that were carried out in August 2012 conflict with the Constitution.
According to a report in the Sunday edition of Ethnos, the Court of Auditors set a precedent after vindicating pensioner, who filed a complaint over the cuts. Specifically, the ruling stresses that the pension cuts were carried out without any consideration into their impact on the provision of a decent living and proportionality.
The cost of restoring the wage and pension cuts of ESY doctors is approximately 220 million euros. Should the Court of Auditors ruling be implemented, then the government will likely see other sectors pose similar demands.
