The Alternate Minister of Public Order Nikos Toskas expressed his frustration with Major General Manolis Sfakianakis, over his reappointment as supervisor of the Cyber Crime Division.

In a Friday morning interview on SKAI, Mr. Toskas explained that there were more important issues at hand, such as the refugee crisis and the closed border at Promachonas, that Mr. Sfakianakis’ issue.

Mr. Toskas repeated his claim that the police official has “exceeded the limits in relation to using the media” and accused the media of an excessive focus on Mr. Sfakianakis. While Mr. Toskas recognized the efforts of Mr. Sfakianakis, he argued that it was time to give his place to younger officers to prove themselves.

The Alternate Minister rejected claims that Mr. Sfakianakis’ dismissal was carried for political reasons, noting that the regulations stipulate nobody can remain in the same position for 20 years, irrespective of their efforts, something which the veteran police official is aware of.
