Evangelos Meimarakis, who led New Democracy in the September 2015 elections, congratulates Alexis Tsipras for his win and called him to promptly form a government to address the country’s problems.

Mr. Meimarakis made the statements upon arrival at New Democracy’s central headquarters. Despite the loss in the elections, Mr. Meimarakis argued that is party will not break up or come to an end, stressing that New Democracy remains “a pillar of democracy and a guarantee for the country’s course”.

Furthermore, he stressed that the Greek people have not changed their mind in the past six months and that his party managed to increase its ratings. When asked whether he would remain at the helm of New Democracy, he responded “everything in due time”.
