The president of the Independent Greeks Panos Kammenos revealed that if his party does not make it in Parliament he will retire from politics, in a Tuesday-morning interview on ANT1. Mr. Kammenos however was quick to add that ever since he established the Independent Greeks, the polls have consistently shown that his party will not make it in Parliament.

Regarding Monday’s debate, Mr. Kammenos noted that it was “interesting” and when asked whom he though to have won the debate, he estimated that “the panic of Evangelos Meimarakis, particularly in his statements as he left ERT, shows the winner”.

Mr. Kammenos cited the statements of HSBC whistleblower Hervé Falciani, who claimed that for five years he had not been contacted to provide any evidence or information on the ‘Lagarde List’. He also accused New Democracy of including “half the penal code” in its ballots – in reference to the candidacy of Mr. Mantouvalos – and for supporting former ELSTAT chief Andreas Georgiou who may face felony perjury and breach of conduct charges.

On the possibility of post-electoral alliances, Mr. Kammenos revealed that he has been in touch with “honest members of New Democracy”, but accused the party’s provisional leader for not updating the party, while stressing that he has missed the opportunity.

The Independent Greeks leader also clarified that he will not participate in any coalition government that includes PASOK and its former president Evangelos Venizelos. He did, however, allow the possibility of cooperating with the River, provided that party leader Stavros Theodorakis clarifies his position on national matters
