A fire that broke out on Sunday in the forest surrounding the city of Arta has been set under partial control, thanks to the prompt intervention of the Fire Brigade.

The forest fire ravaged one side of Mount Peranthi, but a greater disaster was averted after the Fire Brigade dispatched ten vehicles with dozens of firefighters and two aircraft.

Volunteers and local residents also assisted in setting the fire under control, which was threatening to spread towards the local hospital and the Glykorizo settlement.

At present there are no active fires, however the Fire Brigade has ordered three vehicles and a number of firefighters to remain on site in case of a fire resurgence.
