New Democracy secretary Andreas Papamimikos announced his decision to resign from his post on Monday evening, in light of the recent fiasco involving the conference of the main opposition’s youth party ONNED.

In his statement, Mr. Papamimikos complained that he was “assuming more than [his] fair share of responsibilities” and explained that “for this reason I made it easier for the President of N.D. Kyriakos Mitsotakis” and resigned from secretary and the party.

Additionally, at the recommendation of party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis, ONNED president Vasilis Georgiadis was referred to the party’s Central Ethics Committee. It was later announced by the president of the ethics committee Apostolos Kratsas that Mr. Georgiadis was expelled from the party and as such, is no longer at the helm of ONNED.
