Yannis Moralis has been elected the new mayor of Piraeus after defeating the outgoing mayor Vasilis Michaloliakos, who admitted his defeat and around 9pm contacted Mr. Moralis to congratulate him.

Mr. Moralis stated that “one thing is certain, we have a lot of hard work ahead of us, be we have a plan and the necessary strength to see it through”. Council member and president of Olympiacos F.C. Vangelis Marinakis also noted that “the people of Piraeus voted today and won”.

Peletidis elected mayor of Patra

The Communist Party-backed Kostas Peletidis has also been elected mayor of Patra with a 60% of the vote in the second round of elections. His New Democracy-backed opponent Kostas Christopoulos has accepted defeat and thanked his supporters.
