A 58-year-old man has been arrested in a village near Kilkis, in Northern Greece, after the police discovered that the man had converted his home into a weapons cache. The 58-year-old man and his 36-year-old nephew have been arrested.

The police recovered one scoped assault riffle, an assault rifle with magazine, a pistol, two hunting rifles (one of which had been illegally modified), an air gun, two anti-aircraft shells, a rifle barrel, 56 fast-loading magazines and 1,754 rounds of ammunition of various types and caliber. The police also recovered a pistol and knife from the 36-year-old.

The 58-year-old’s home was raided by the police on Wednesday morning after the local authorities had been tipped off. When the police officers confronted the 58-year-old about the heavy weaponry, he claimed that he was a “collector”. The weapons will soon be sent for a series of ballistics tests, in order to determine their origin and whether they have been used in any crimes.
