The deal struck between the coalition government and the troika made provisions for a benefit for the country’s uniformed officers whose gross earnings are under 1,500 euros per month.
In total, there are 64,065 uniformed officers who will receive the benefit; 26,525 are police officers, 2,315 are coast guard officers, 1,480 are in the Fire Brigade and 33,745 are in the Ministry of National Defense.
The benefit will be paid out on the 9th of May 2014 and will be determined by each officer’s wages in January 2014. Additionally, insurance contributions will be reduced y 3.9% this year, after having been reduced by 1.1% last year.
