The parliamentary initiative for initiative talks between the government and farmers failed after the farmers refused to attend a 3pm meeting in Parliament at the production and trade committee.

As such, the committee members called off the Tuesday meeting, with chairperson Chara Kafantari noting that in spite of the negative development, the committee is prepared to contribute towards talks.

The main opposition party accused the government of not wishing to enter real talks with the farmers, with New Democracy MP Theodoros Karaoglou arguing that the government is becoming politically isolated.

A proposal by River MP Giorgos Amyras for the committee members to visit the farmer road blocks was shot down on account that such a proposal exceeds the institutional role of a parliamentary committee.
