The government is taking steps to address undeclared employment in the agricultural sector, by making it compulsory for employers to ensure their employees, even in the case of ‘irregular migrants’.

According to a report in Ethnos, the government estimates that about 1 billion euros is paid out to undeclared workers in agriculture. As such, if employers are forced to pay a 10% insurance contributions towards the OGA pension fund, revenue could go up by 100 million euros.

Furthermore, the newspaper report notes the fine imposed for each undeclared employee will be up to 10,500 euros.
