The contract on the upgrading of six Hellenic Navy frigates in 2003 is being examined, with the case file also being forwarded to Parliament in order to investigate the liability of the former Minister of National Defense Yannos Papantoniou.

According to the contract signed with Hellenic Shipyards SA (with Thales Nederland DV being the primary subcontractor) on the 12th of February 2003, six “S” type frigates were to be upgraded for 381,578,580 euros.

It appears that the contact violates a series of laws and directives from the Ministry of National Defense, affecting the offsets provided to the Hellenic State.
