The leader of the recently-formed River party Stavros Theodorakis appeared on public broadcaster NERIT to discuss his party goals and intentions to form alliances after the upcoming elections.
Mr. Theodorakis set the bar high for his party and admitted that his goal is to establish his party in third place in the European elections and argued that “with a 5% rate you cannot influence”.
At the same time, the party leader was concerned that many undecided voters would abstain from the election and accused the government of intentionally arranging the local government and European elections on consecutive weekends. Mr. Theodorakis asserted that the European elections should take place first.
Regarding his political opponents, the River leader claimed that the dilemmas posed by both the Samaras–Venizelos coalition government and opposition leader Alexis Tsipras are “silly”. He also noted that in no other EU country has an issue of government stability been raised in response to the possible outcome.
Mr. Theodorakis also commented on Venizelos’ coercive rhetoric, arguing that nobody is going to vote for PASOK should it decided to abandon the coalition government.
