The leader of SYRIZA and the Opposition Alexis Tsipras was invited by the employees of ET3 in Thessaloniki to comment on the latest political developments, where he discussed the upcoming municipal, regional and European elections in May 2014.

Mr. Tsipras asserted that “there will be elections in May 2014, whether they like it or not” and explained that “we will have municipal, regional and European elections and the dissatisfaction with bailout politicians will be illustrated”.

The SYRIZA leader appeared certain that national elections would come much sooner, insinuating that such a development would come as a consequence of the recent motion for censure which his party recently initiated in Parliament. Mr. Tsipras wondered “if they got 153 votes for the vote of confidence, how many will they get for a bill, with which they will tax stockyards and animal pens?

The opposition leader estimated that the troika “has realized that the political time of this government is running out” since the creditors believe that “now is the chance to pass new measures and that is why they insist on hard measures, hoping that this government might pass them. That is why this government is on its way out”.

When asked about the rumored alliance with ANEL, Mr. Tsipras avoided elaborating on the subject and instead explained that “the great alliance is with the people”.

Mr. Tsipras clarified that he was against unilateral actions regarding the management of the debt, claiming that negotiations should be within a European framework and a solution must European, “because unilateral actions will sweep across Europe and that is what they are afraid”.

The SYRIZA was certain that Greece would remain within the Eurozone when he questioned “who will decide on a Greek exit from the EU? Schäuble? Schäuble will amputate the south-eastern limb of Europe?”
