The parliamentary conflict between the “democratic” parties and Golden Dawn took a new twist on Thursday afternoon, when the President of Parliament and New Democracy MP Evangelos Meimarakis sat next to the Vice President of Parliament and SYRIZA MP Yannis Dragasakis.
Mr. Meimarakis later explained that he did so to show his support to the SYRIZA MP. On Wednesday Golden Dawn requested in writing that Mr. Dragasakis does not preside in Parliament when their MPs are addressing parliament. The Golden Dawn MPs also made accusations about Mr. Dragasakis daughter and family.
Mr. Meimarakis opined that the political leaders must be more sensitive to what is being said in Parliament and not allow a few individuals to tarnish the institution. Mr. Meimarakis stressed that such events are unacceptable, especially on the anniversary of the restoration of democracy.
