During yesterday’s Eurogroup Working Group session it was revealed that Greece had only implemented 21 of the 22 necessary prior actions to collect July’s loan installment. The prior action in question relates to the number of public sector employees to be inducted in the suspension list.
Initially teachers with post-graduate and doctoral degrees were exempt from the suspensions affecting technical schools and were to be transferred to administrative positions. Despite the provision being included in the recent bill voted in Parliament, the troika demands have necessitated an amendment.
To that end, the Minister of Education Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos has decided to draft an amendment to include the 245 teachers that were initially exempt the suspension measures.
This amendment also appears to apply to the Ministry of Administrative Reform, as it is also signed by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who had promised that municipal police officers with post-graduate or doctoral degrees would be exempt from the suspension scheme.
