The citizens of Keratea, Fyli and Grammatiko staged a demonstration outside local government offices, over the call for offers regarding the construction of waste processing facilities in Keratea.

Before the announcement was made, citizens of Keratea along with former mayor St. Iatrou sought legal action and an injunction, since they consider the procedure to be illegal. The claims were rejected as their reasoning was “unfounded”. In a press conference later that day, the citizens of Keratea insisted that the auction was illegal and condemned local government for “illegal and undemocratic actions”.

Former mayor Mr. Iatrou stressed that the companies expressing interest did not want to get involved with the “Keratea hot potato”, but were forced in order to bid for the construction of waste management facilities elsewhere. The protesting citizens noted that their 128-day struggle, for which legal action still remains to be taken, will be the guiding principle for future resistance.
