Two men with Swedish passports – a 29-year-old originally from Bosnia and a 20-year-old originally from Yemen – have been arrested in Alexandroupoli as suspected jihadist terrorists attempting to cross over into Turkey. The two men will face the examiner on Tuesday.
According to early reports, the two men arrived in Greece via plane at the Athens International Airport and then took a bus to Alexandroupoli. When arrested, the Greek authorities found knives in their belongings. Both suspects – who will reportedly face felony charges for possession of military equipment with the intention of supplying terrorist groups – claimed to be surprised at their arrest and claimed to be visiting Greece as tourists.
A Mega Channel report revealed that the 29-year-old man was convicted in 2005 for his involvement in a terrorist group that planned to carry out attacks against western targets. British secret services had discovered a large quantity of explosives, an explosives belt and a video, where a hooded man reportedly threatened to carry out terrorist attacks against the US Capital and White House.
