A new tragedy at sea took place in the Aegean Sea on Wednesday, when a dinghy carrying refugees capsized near Cape Ammoglossa off the northern coast of Kos, within Turkish waters.

Seven bodies have so far been recovered, belonging to three men, two women and two infants (one boy and one girl). Turkish authorities have rescued one survivor, a woman, who is an a critical condition.

One of the refugees who was on board the dinghy managed to battle the waves and make it to the Greek shores to ask for help. According to the survivor there were about 6 to 10 people on the dinghy.

The Coast Guard has launched an operation with the support of Frontex and Turkish authorities in an effort to find and rescue other survivors.
