A convoy of 82 buses, carrying about 4,000 miners, is headed from Halkidiki to Athens, in order to participate in a demonstration outside the Ministry of Productive Reconstruction and Parliament. The miners demand that the controversial mining operations continue.

After their demonstration the miners intend to set up a camp outside Parliament. They had temporarily suspended their protest actions for the Easter holidays.

Meanwhile, the Halkidiki Solidarity Committee of Attica has also announced a demonstration and march against the continuation of the mining operations. The protest is scheduled for 6pm at the Propylaea in downtown Athens.

The police will have a strong presence in the city center on Thursday, in order to prevent the two groups of demonstrators meeting. The two sides recently clashed in protests and counter-protests in Halkidiki.
