The seasonal flu virus has claimed one more life in the past 24 hours, raising the total casualties to six, while a further eight patients have been hospitalized and are receiving treatment in ICUs.

At present there are 17 people who are receiving treatment in ICUs across Greece, with the div expected to rise, as the reported cases increase. The hospitals in Attica reportedly treated 85 patients with suspect symptoms. Doctors hope that antiviral and preventative treatment will help curb a potential outbreak.

The Hellenic Center of Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) has insisted that people at risk must seek out antiviral inoculation and protection against both the H1N1 and H3N2 strands of the flu virus.

Scientists are concerned because the flu virus has claimed the life of a 24-year-old man with no prior medical problems. Typically, the flu virus is a threat for the elderly and people with weak immune systems.
