From the first days of the election period it already looks like we will head to the ballots within a climate of a divisive political conflict.
As the country has reached a turning point and the voices abroad regarding the uncertainty that is being generated increase, the political leaders are exhausting themselves in personal attacks in a war without any limits. Instead of arguments and debating we are witnessing constant clashes, accusations and a perpetual attempt to depreciate one another.
Once again, logic and calm are absent, while shouting and scaremongering prevail. The political cannibalism – which has become a main propaganda tool – is spiraling out of control in the central political scene, as well as the Internet and social media. Armies of fanatics have literally been formed to use all means to their disposal to target and bombard whomever they consider an easy enemy; with strikes under the belt, with fake or fabricated evidence, by distorting opinions and attempting the depreciate morally and politically their real or potential party enemies.
Instead of debating, exchanging ideas and arguing on an ideological level, we are witnessing a ruthless battle of political annihilation. No limits, no qualms and no concern for the consequences that this climate of political barbarism may have.
Neither the country, nor society, the economy or the deeply injured political system itself can endure this sort of conflict and cannibalism. The natural and moral instigators of this absurdity must end this while there is still time. In the short time until the elections they must allow the people to decide soberly and calmly. Let them clarify their positions and opinions with arguments and meaningful discussion. Enough with the hearsay and gossip.
