The political secretariat of SYRIZA discussed the construction plans of AEK FC’s stadium in Nea Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon, with the opposition party anticipating to clash with the government in Parliament.
During Yannis Sgouros’ tenure as district governor of Attica, 20 million euros were allocated for the construction of a news stadium for AEK FC in Nea Philadelphia. However after the election of Rena Dourou as district governor and Aris Vasilopoulos as the local mayor, there have been some objections.
During Tuesday’s discussion at the Parliamentary Committee of Production and Trade, SYRIZA MP Vangelis Apostolou likened the construction plans to the scandal surrounding the construction of “The Mall” and argued that the current plans would set a dangerous precedent so that land from parks and forests can be seized for the construction of sports facilities.
