The Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is currently preparing New Democracy’s list of proposals for the upcoming Constitutional Review, which he intends to present on Friday. Mr. Samaras is in favor of reviewing the Constitution in an effort to establish the “New Changeover”, as he has coined his new constitutional charter.

Amongst Mr. Samaras’ many proposals is the reduction of the number of MPs from 300 to 250 or 200, introducing a number of changes regarding the election of the President of Democracy, setting time limitations for the PM’s term of office and changing the provisions of parliamentary immunity.

Additional proposals meant to streamline the political process include the abolition of parliamentary benefits unrelated to the MPs duties, as well as the posts of general secretary in ministries (and simultaneous upgrade of general directors).

Other proposals include the founding of private universities, a Constitutional Court of Justice and a special department in the State Council which will quickly handle cases involving public contracts and private investments.
