The agreement with the troika was good, but at some point the government’s interior must also come to an agreement. Yesterday’s dealings in Parliament, where one Minister pointed the blame on his deputy and vice versa, must cause a bit of concern.

It is problematic if for every issue that is raised in Parliament or for which a decision is required, to have the political leaders negotiate to overcome the problem, since the ministers cannot agree amongst themselves.

Even worse, a minister cannot publicly express his disagreement for a matter that took many months of negotiations, essentially foreshadowing his resignation if his opinion is not accepted. But these are not recent symptoms; they have been repeating themselves for some time.

It is, or perhaps is should be, more than clear that the country’s situation demands a determined leadership which will focus on ensuring the necessary conditions so that the country can overcome the crisis. The personal strategies and nods to party clientele cannot be the focus of any minister or officer.

We have paid dearly for the delays in the past, the favoritism as well as the political and ideological entanglements. The government must unite and rise up to the demands. There us no place today for internal disagreements, conflicts and political games. Samaras and Venizelos are obligated to solve these problems as soon as possible and to secure their government’s effective operation.
