The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) has made a proposal for a general strike on Thursday the 4th of February, in order to demonstrate against the imminent pension system reform and other bailout-mandated measures.
GSEE president Yannis Panagopoulos called for an alliance with other federation and scientific bodies, arguing that they will be able to claim their goals if they can coordinate their actions.
Mr. Panagopoulos argued that the new pension system is morally unsustainable as it ruins the younger generation and accused the government of propaganda when it claims that main pensions will be unaffected. He was also highly critical of the introducing a joint pension fund for both employees and employers, while stressing that given the current rate of unemployment, the new pension system is unacceptable.
