The upcoming cabinet reshuffle is an opportunity to fix the problems in the government engine so that it can become more determined and efficient at managing the critical issues that beset the country. It is imperative that the most capable, the most worthy and the most determined confront the problems and people.

Past experience unfortunately suggests that the cabinet reshuffles are wasted on recycling the same officers who either failed in one ministry or stayed with the reserves for a while and now they have returned hoping to do even better… even worse though, on many occasions the cabinet reshuffles are more about maintaining a political balance, favoring the friends and challengers of the leader.

After five years of the crisis the country does not have the luxury of any further petty political arrangements that turn out to be inefficient and insufficient in no time. He country needs a dynamic government that will focus on an exit strategy from the crisis and seriously address the social and economic problems.

It is not coincidence that the ministers that stood out in the current government are the ones who had a plan and determination, who did not think of their political clientele, who attempted to manage the huge problems and tried to overcome the tight boundaries of the everyday. A fine example is he Minister of Agricultural Development, a visionary technocrat with a deeply political plan who is trying to rebuild Greek agriculture.

Fortunately there are many capable people in our country. Unfortunately most of them are outside the party bounds, irrespective of political identity. It is the duty of the political leadership and the Prime Minister specifically to take advantage of everyone who believes can serve the country’s reconstruction without considering the necessary, yet inefficient political balances.
