The Colour Youth NGO, which works with the LGBTQ community in Athens, has announced that it has received over 100 complaints for homophobic attacks between the 1st of April 2014 and 30th of November 2015. Some of these attacks took place as early as 2009, but were only reported in the aforementioned period.

According to the NGO, the 101 complaints received detail instances of violence or discrimination based on gender, sexual identity or orientation. In 5 cases serious bodily harm was caused and in 19 others minor injuries were caused. The complaints also include one rape and numerous instances of verbal abuse and intimidation.

More than half of the reported homophobic incidents (52) took place in public spaces, such as streets, parks, bus stops etc. The reports also revels that eight incidents took place in public services and bodies, such as schools, tax offices or ministries.
