The latest film of director Pantelis Voulgaris, “Little England”, triumphed at the 17th Shanghai Film Festival, after it won the Golden Goblets for best feature film, best director and best actress for Pinelopi Tsilika’s performance.
The annual Shanghai Film Festival, which is considered one of the most important Asian film festivals, took place between the 14th and 22nd of June. The members if the jury included Chinese actress Gong Li (who also presided), South Korean director and screenwriter Im Sangsoo, Japanese director Shunji Iwai, Chinese director Liu Jie, Iranian actor and diretor Peyman Moaadi, British director Sally Porter and Danish director Lone Scherfig.
The period drama, which is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Ioanna Karystiani, takes place in the interwar and post war periods in Greece, focusing on the story of sisters Orsa and Moscha. The film was shot on location in Andros and was amongst the highest grossing films in Greece in the past season.
