The Minister of Finances Yannis Stournaras is thought to have “surprise news” regarding the progress of the economy, which he intends to publicize over the next few days.

Mr. Stournaras is presumably awaiting confirmation of divs from the national statistics authority ELSTAT and the State Treasury, with rumors suggesting the announcement will have a decisive effect on the troika negotiations.

When asked about the nature of these divs, Mr. Stournaras has not revealed anything, however in private the Minister claims that the news this is the reasons why negotiations with the troika have stalled since the autumn.

Some have suggested that Mr. Stournaras’ sudden bout of optimism is related to an alleged proposal for a new bailout loan that the German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble is thought to have suggested to the Greek government.
