The Police are investigating the evidence left behind by a gang which attempted to kidnap 33-year-old Kikos Martinos of the Martinos ship-owning family yesterday afternoon in Vouliagmeni. The possibility of theft has not been excluded by the police.

According to the police report, Martinos was driving home from his company offices, when noticed that he was being followed by a car on Vouliagmenis Avenue. At a nearby intersection, a van blocked his path, with three men brandishing guns immobilizing Martinos. The driver quickly backed into the car that was following him to free himself and returned to his offices, where he contacted the police.

The police later located both vehicles used by the – apparent – kidnappers which had been set on fire to dispose of any evidence. The fire caused the gas tank of one of the two vehicles to explode, causing damages to nearby buildings. The would-be kidnappers used forged license plates on the two vehicles.

It appears that the kidnappers had planned their operation in detail, but do not appear to have anticipated that their target would react in such a way. It seems like the group had followed the 33-year-old over the past days and had prepared a third vehicle to use in their escape.
