The Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras warned German Chancellor Angela Merkel that Greece would be unable to cover its financial obligations, should a short-term funding solution not be provided immediately, in a letter he sent her on the15th of March.
According to a report in the Financial Times, the letter was sent four days before the Summit in Brussels and two days before a private meeting between the two leaders was arranged in Berlin.
Mr. Tsipras also denounced the European Central Ban, for imposing limitations on Greece, as well as the rescue principles in the Eurozone, which will not allow any further help to Greece unless new financial reforms are adopted. In his letter Mr. Tsipras argues that he will be forced to choose between paying back the IMF or paying out wages and pensions.
The PM hints that he will ignore payments towards the IMF, instead opting to pay out wages and pensions, while stressing that he will not tolerate the further financial deterioration of the already oppressed Greek society. He then asked Mrs. Merkel to not allow a small liquidity problem and institutional idleness escalate into a major Greek and European problem.
