The first heat wave of this year’s summer is at the gates, with the national meteorological service EMY issuing a special bulletin warning of the high temperatures.

The temperature is set to rise gradually until Friday, when in many areas across Greece, it is expected to reach or even exceed 41 degrees Celsius.

On Saturday the northerly winds will get stronger, causing the temperature to drop up to ten degrees in northern parts of the country, with the possibility of thunderstorms.

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection and Ministry of Health have issued warnings, urging those who are especially vulnerable to the heat – babies, young children, the elderly, people suffering from chronic diseases etc – to avoid strenuous activities in the sun and to keep hydrated.
