The General Secretariat for Civil Protection has issued a warning of a high risk of forest fire outbreak in eastern parts of Central Greece (including Attica), Peloponnesus, Thessaly, Halkidiki, the islands of the North Aegean and the Cyclades.

According to the announcement, local government officials have been informed to remain vigilant in order to immediately tackle any fires. Additionally, Civil Protection has requested people to be extra careful not to inadvertently cause any fires and avoid burning any weeds and using equipment that may cause sparks (such as welding machines and saws).

On Thursday there were 79 reported forest fires across the country, with the fire in Galataki in Korinthia being the most serious. The fire has been set under control, after burning down one house and a car. One firefighter was lightly injured during the operation and has been hospitalized.

The fire that broke out in Agiokampos, in the municipality of Agia in Larissa, has been partially set under control, while the forest fire in the Malesina region of Fthiotida is not currently threatening any houses.
