The “Initiative of 58” has arranged an event for Monday evening at the Culture Center in Kifisia, where professor Christos Rozakis and DIMAR executives are going to be the main speakers. The event came in response to Evangelos Venizelos’ proposal for a greater center left alliance in the upcoming European elections and Kouvelis’ outright refusal.
The “58” appear to be pleased by Mr. Venizelos’ initiative to form an alliance with other center left parties, but there is skepticism as to whether other PASOK members will support it; so far prominent PASOK members such as Kostas Skandalidis, Fofi Gennimata, Thanos Moraitis and Michalis Karhimakis have expressed their doubts and reservations about the “58”.
DIMAR leader Fotis Kouvelis however rejected an alliance with the “58” and explained that the involvement of PASOK in such an alliance would create “a different political plan to that of DIMAR”. Mr. Kouvelis was also critical of DIMAR MPs Grigoris Psarianos and Andreas Papadopoulos, who are scheduled to speak at today’s event in Kifisia.
