The Ministry of Finances will try to put an end to the mismanagement of national heritage and unclaimed property by submitting a draft bill for discussion today in parliament.

The bill, which was first drafted twenty years ago, is meant to replace the legal framework that has been in place since the Ioannis Metaxas dictatorship (N.2039/1939).

The bill specifically addresses the management and supervision of public property and to take advantage of high value donations to the State, such as the ones in Epirus or Spetses. The bill also addresses the management of unclaimed property.

In practice, the bill will establish registers for public and unclaimed property, as well as individuals and companies involved in the management of such property. The bill also provides regular audits on an annual basis and a number of other changes intended to streamline the procedures.
