Local residents and police reportedly clased on the Kakavos mountain in Halkidiki on Friday morning. Eye-witnesses reported that local residents went to the Kakavos mountain to protest against the deforestation taking place.
The “Ellinikos Chrysos” firm operating the mines in Skouries is currently cutting down trees near that Karatzas river stream, under the protection of riot police. The police reported that about 30 individuals, without provocation, attacked patrolling officers with stones, flares and two petrol bombs. The local residents claim they were attacked by the riot police with tear gas.
