The Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis is in search for a suitable place to rent or buy in order to establish a crematorium in Greece, amid reactions from the Church.
Due to reactions, the local government has not been able to set up the crematorium on municipal land or within cemeteries. As such, the local government authorities are looking into other options and is considering land outside the city limits.
At present there is no crematorium operating in Greece, therefore if anyone wishes to be cremated they must travel abroad at great financial and emotional expense.
