The “Insurgent Frontiersmen” group has claimed responsibility for the recent arson attack with gas canisters against the political office of former Justice Minister Charalambos Athanasiou in Mytilene.
In its declaration, the group lashed out against the former Minister and explained that it carried out the attack in solidarity to Evi Statiri and demanded her release.
According to the group, the family and friend relations with political prisoners have been penalized and praised Statiri, who has gone on a hunger strike, for “rising up against the fear f the shadow of Authority that wished to seek revenge from her partner Gerasimos Tsakalos and punish her for standing by his side all these years”.
The group also disputed rumors that human lives where at risk from the attack, underlining that the only apartment in the building where Mr. Athanasiou’s office is housed is on the fifth floor, with immediate access to the neighboring roof. The group also denounced the presence of riot police on the island.
