The members of the “Rouvikonas” anarchist collective that staged a protest in the courtyard of Parliament on Wednesday has issued a statement arguing that they could have entered the building if they wished, before warning of others attempting “proper invasions”.
In their statement the anarchists repeat that their action intended to raise awareness and solidarity for the hunger strike of prisoners, who demand, among others, the abolition of maximum security prisons and anti-terrorism legislation, as well as the release of Savvas Xiros. The anarchists point out that the death of the first hunger striker in Greece and Europe since Bobby Sands is closer than ever.
The anarchists called the SYRIZA-led government to demonstrate whether “it is a regime worse than the Samaras government or managers without access to critical sectors of implemented policies, who watch helpless as the police and judiciary revel, as they have been for the past two months”.
They further warn the government that they have the political responsibility of anything that happens to hunger strikers – many of whom are facing serious health problems after 32 days on strike – and that if things “get worse, then “others may attempt proper invasions”.
