Following his appearance at the Ambrosetti Forum in Como, the leader of the main opposition Alexis Tsipras gave an interview to CNBC where he explained that Europe has nothing to fear from a SYRIZA electoral win. Mr. Tsipras stated that “the political change in Greece is not a threat for Europe, but a challenge for Europe: to change policy and to try to find a common viable solution to our common problem”.

This statement also came in response to the criticism Mr. Tsipras has received from within his party, over his decision to snub the International Fair in Thessaloniki to attend the forum in Como. The Left Platform in particular fears that such a development may lead to historic compromises, which go against the party’s rhetoric of change.

In his interview the opposition leader predicted that general elections would come in early 2015, claiming that the coalition government will be unable to secure the 180 votes in Parliament for the presidential election. The SYRIZA leader argued that should he be elected, he plans to renegotiate the policies which have lead to the current disastrous situation.
