The Greek national basketball team confirmed its status as of the top European squads on Wednesday, after it defeated Slovenia 83-72 and essentially secured the first place in Group C.

Once again, Fotis Katsikaris’ players were on top form at the start of the game and managed to build a 15-point lead by the end of the first half. At the start of the second half though the Greek team allowed Jure Zdovc’s players to make a comeback. With an amazing Jaka Blažič, the Slovenian team managed to knock the difference down to 2 points (62-60) with seven minutes left on the clock!

The Slovenian team though was unable to stop Vasilis Spanoulis and Nikos Zisis, who managed to build a new 13-point lead (80-67), with three minutes left in the game, thus putting an end to the Slovenia’s dreams.

Greece will face the Netherlands at 10pm on Thursday, in the final game of the group stage.
