The Ministry of Shipping has reportedly chartered a third ship, after the Eleftherios Venizelos ferry boat and the Tera Jet catamaran, to transfer refugees from Mytilene.

According to a report from the Athens-Macedonia News Agency, the Blue Star Patmos is approaching Mytilene in order to transfer refugees to Piraeus. The Tera Jet is about to depart from Mytilene with 1,700 on board, while the Eleftherios Venizelos is expected to arrive in Piraeus with 2,187 refugees.

Meanwhile, the UNHCR announced that as of Tuesday there were an estimated 30,000 refugees and migrants on Greek islands, with about 20,000 of them currently on Mytilene. The UNHCR has supported the EU’s reallocation initiative to move 200,000 to other countries.
